Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (REU)
Mandatory Group Activities
Week One:
- Welcome reception and orientation by Gwo-Ching Wang:
- How to prepare one page poster, abstract and written report
- Students finish paper work related to payroll, ID, etc.
- Group photo
- Project title presentation (Limited to one slide and four minute talk per student)
Week Two:
Sang Kee Eah presents, “Gold Nanoparticles: 10-minute Synthesis and 2D self-assembly”
Week Three:
Christian Wetzel presents, “Saving Energy with Semiconductors-Solid-State Lighting with LEDs”
Week Four:
Pengyu Han, “T-Ray, the next frontier”
Week Five:
Jim Napolitano presents, "Neutrinos and Daya Bay"
Week Six:
Hard copy of midterm written progress reports due (Limited to five pages single space excluding figures)
Midterm oral progress presentations (Limited to ten minute talk and three minutes questions and answers)
Lunch. All advisors and graduate students who work closely with you are invited.
Week Seven:
Peter Persans presents, “Photothermal Deflection Spectroscopy”
Week Eight:
Joel Giedt presents, “Using supercomputers to study what the LHC might see”
Week Nine:
RPI Lab tours
Final presentation abstracts due.
Final written reports due (Limited to ten pages excluding figures).
Week Ten:
Final poster presentations
Farewell lunch. All advisors and graduate students are invited.

Rensselaer undergraduates can organize activities including watching movies, playing sports, summer concerts at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and hiking trips in the Adirondack mountains, in the evenings and weekends.
