The Center for Terahertz Research
 |
I am currently a Ph.D. student working under Prof. Xi Cheng Zhang in the Center for Terahertz Research. Our research spans a broad area including continuous wave imaging, time domain spectroscopy, and the study of nonlinear terahertz generation. Currently, my research involves the study of terahertz generation from air by focusing high peak energy 800nm and 400nm pulses of light to form plasma from which intense broadband terahertz pulses are generated. Using LabView to digitally control a spatial light modulator (capable of delaying various parts of the spatial beam by up to 2) I am able to manipulate the plasma formation to study how this directly affects the terahertz generation process. In the past, I worked in our compact lab, helping to further develop and optimize our miniature time domain spectrometer “mini-Z”. This group’s research is a melting pot of electrical engineering and physics, and in this way I am able to learn a large range of skills that will help me to excel as a student and researcher.
