I am currently working with Xi-Cheng Zhang and Jing Zhou Xu in the Department of Physics, where we study Terahertz (THz) Technology.

In particular, I am setting up a basic THz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) setup. This setup uses an 8W argon laser to pump a mode-locked Ti:sapphire. The ~60 fs pulses are illuminated on an InGaAs wafer, which acts as a THz emitter. The THz is then propagated through a given sample, and detected via a pump-probe interaction within a ZnTe crystal.

I am interested in many things, but in particular rapid temporal scanning of ultrafast lasers, since the implementation of such techniques can greatly increase spectral resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, and most importantly, scan rate. Rapid temporal scanning can be used in nearly all pump-probe optical measurements, not strictly for THz applications.

My expectations from this work will greatly increase my knowledge in THz-TDS, along with a novel method for rapid temporal scanning using a single laser.
