Chris Johansen
Mechanical Engineering

GAANN Fellow

I am currently working with Prof. Hanchen Huang in the department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering and Prof. Toh-Ming Lu in the department of physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy.  We will study the fabrication of crystalline nanostructures through vapor deposition on amorphous or polycrystalline substrates through the use of atomistic simulations.

More specifically, in the short term I will be working on classical molecular dynamics simulations, and gradually embark on kinetic Monte Carlo simulations of the texture evolution processes.

We intend to combine these atomistic simulations with the on-going developments of in situ characterization capabilities in order to discover the optimal design and applications of crystalline nanostructures for engineering applications.
