EXPLANATION: |
| |
| As a last look at wave interference,
here is a device for making Lissajous figures. All
you do is take two speakers and link them to a mirror
at 90 degrees apart. That way, one speaker drives
the x-direction of the mirror, and the other drives
the y-direction. The motions combine in two dimensions.
Bounce a laser off the mirror and you can project
these cool images on the wall. They appear 3-dimentional
and rotate in space. They change shapes if the frequency
difference between the speakers changes. |

If you get to a point where you can hear slow
beats, you will notice the shape pulsating with
the beat frequency. This is a cool way to actually
"see" something you hear.
