In this "laboratory" you will design and build a scale model of the solar system. Most of the work is best done well before coming to class, but I think you'll find it rather fun and interesting.
You are welcome to work on this project in pairs.
Download and print out the worksheet. There are some questions there for you to answer and hand in. This is also the best way to start and plan your scale model. Be careful to choose something to set the scale that doesn't force the inner planets to be too small, or the distance to the outer planets to be too big, either of which would force the model itself to be unwieldy.
It's not unreasonable that you would use parts of campus to locate the planets. You can use the campus map to help you judge distances.
Come to studio as usual to turn in your worksheet. Try to bring some artifact of your model, if not the actual model itself.
