Linking to PC Software on RCS

The CLEA and CUPS software we use in the studio classroom actually resides on RCS, the campus-wide unix network. We use those programs on the studio PC's running Windows-95, however, not unix.

It is a little cumbersome to get access to these files, but the procedure is straightforward, and you can also use it to save your work by transferring it to your RCS account:

  1. Using the "start" icon at the lower left of the screen, shutdown Windows 95 by logging off all programs and log in as a different user. You will be prompted for your RCS userid and password. The computer will boot into a standard Windows-95 screen.
  2. Click on the "RCS" icon on the right hand side of the screen. A window will appear, asking you to check boxes for linking to the public area and/or your home area. Click public, since that's what you need to get to the CLEA or CUPS software. If you also want to connect to your home area, click that box as well.
  3. Use the public area to access the PC software on RCS. Select the folders "dept", then "phys", then "Courses", then "Astronomy", and finally "Clea" or "Cups", whichever is appropriate. Inside that folder is an icon which brings up the program for the day.
