This course emphasizes cosmology - the large-scale structure, origin, and evolution of the Universe. 1 or 2 credits
This course gives an overview of the planets in our Solar System, including recent results from ground-based observations and space probes. 1 or 2 credits
This math- and physics-based course covers such topics as stellar astronomy, the interstellar medium, galaxies, quasars, and cosmology. 4 credits
This course is offered as an introduction to Astronomy from an observational perspective. Nighttime outdoor labs allow the student to become familiar with and use Rensselaer's 16" telescope, as well as learn about constellations and the objects in them. 4 credits
This course is concurrent with Earth and Sky but requires more classwork and an additional observational project. 4 credits
This survey course in modern Astrophysics emphasizes relevant physical concepts, such as stellar structure and evolution, the interstellar medium, and high energy astrophysics. 4 credits
Classical general relativity, with an emphasis on its application to cosmology is covered in this course. 4 credits
The questions of how and where life began and under what circumstances are discussed in this course. It is multidisciplinary and covers topics in Physics, Astronomy, Biology, Chemisty, and Geology. 4 credits
