Costing
The Rensselaer Stockroom is a not-for-profit department, but we operate like a retail store. The Stockroom must keep accurate issue details in order to charge properly for all goods purchased.
An important part of our function is to accurately document what materials are used on each job in order to have valuable job costing history reports through the Computer Maintenance Management System. A customer coming into the Stockroom can provide a list Request for Material of the items they will need for a particular project. If we carry what they need in stock, we pull them immediately so the worker can be on their way to the job site. If their need is for something we don't have on hand, we place the order and notify them by email when the materials are received. We charge the items out to the work order number provided to us by the worker. Through the Computer Maintenance Management System/BANNER interface, this information will generate a charge to the appropriate department's Fund and Org for the work completed.
In addition to tracking of maintenance costs, our documentation is important for showing things such as filter and belt changes on equipment for Preventive Maintenance reasons. |
