Abandoned, Unsafe & Vehicles Under Repair
The following will apply to all vehicles on Rensselaer property that are unsafe, abandoned, and inoperable or under repair:
- Unsafe vehicles are those that present a clear and present danger or are threat to life safety or the environment. (As an example, a vehicle that is leaking gas, oil or anti-freeze.) These vehicles will be ticketed as “unsafe” and must be immediately removed from campus. These vehicles can be towed off campus at any time at the expense of the owner or driver.
- Vehicles without a valid State or Province vehicle registration are considered abandoned. These vehicles will be ticketed as “abandoned” and towed off campus 30 calendar days from the ticket date. The 30-day waiting period is a legal requirement that does not apply to vehicles that are a health or safety hazard.
- A 30-day permit from the Campus Parking Office is required for vehicles that are inoperable or under repair that will take more than 24 hours to complete. This permit is not renewable and can only be issued to vehicles with a valid State or Province vehicle registration and a valid Rensselaer hang tag. Vehicles not in compliance will be ticketed and can be towed off campus 30 calendar days from the ticket date.
Note: The towing vendor can sell unclaimed vehicles to recover costs.
