Executive Officer - Marine Officer Instructor - Associate Professor of Naval Science
Major Culligan currently serves as the Executive Officer of Naval ROTC at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He graduated from the University of San Diego worth a Bachelor’s of Art in International Relations in 2007, and was commissioning a Second Lieutenant through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Program.
Upon completion of The Basic School in May 2008, Major Culligan was assigned the 0402 (Logistics Officer) Military Occupational Specialty and reported to Camp Johnson, North Carolina for the instruction as a student officer during Logistics Officer Course 2-08. Following completion of this course, Major Culligan reported to Combat Logistics Regiment-1, 1st Marine Logistics Group in Camp Pendleton, California. In September 2008 he was assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer for Combat Logistics Battalion-7 and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in February 2009 where he subsequently served as a Truck Platoon Commander in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
Redeploying from Operation Iraqi Freedom in September 2009, Major Culligan was reassigned to Combat Logistics Regiment-17, and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in February 2010 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan serving as Officer in Charge, Landing Support and Air Delivery Detachment, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward). Redeploying from Operation Enduring Freedom in January 2011, Major Culligan was assigned as the Air Delivery Platoon Commander, Landing Support Company, Combat Logistics Regiment-17.
In August 2011, Major Culligan reported for duty to 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. From August 2011 to May 2013, he served as Lead Series Commander, Company A, completing six recruit training cycles. He subsequently selected to command Company C, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, completing an additional three recruit training cycles.
In April 2014, Major Culligan reported to a duty assignment as Battalion Logistics Officer, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine, 1st Marine Division (Reinforced) aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. During this assignment, Major Culligan deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program, and to Darwin, Australia in support of Marine Rotational Force-Darwin.
In May 2017, Major Culligan graduated from Webster University with a Masters of Arts in Management and Leadership. His personal awards and achievements include four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Drill Instructor Service Ribbon, and Basic Parachutist Wings.
