Van Mow ’62 Accumulates Accolades
Additional recent honors include election to membership in Taiwan’s Academia Sinica and, from his native country of China, honorary professorships at Zhejiang University and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Mow is the Stanley Dicker Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Orthopedic Bioengineering, the inaugural chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and director of the Liu Ping Laboratory for Functional Tissue Engineering Research at Columbia. He has been honored many times in his career, including memberships in both the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, for his contributions to the field of biomechanics, particularly for his landmark work on biologic tissues. His current research interests include orthopedic biomechanics and osteoarthritis research, computer-aided surgical planning, and telemedicine. Mow earned his bachelor’s in aeronautical engineering and doctorate in applied mechanics at Rensselaer, where he is the former John A. Clark and Edward T. Crossan Professor of Engineering. He has published seven books, more than 670 papers, and delivered more than 470 invited lectures worldwide. He is currently advising the Crown Princess Sirindhorn of Thailand for the building of biomedical engineering programs in Thailand. |
