Learning
objectives differ from Course Goals in that course goals frequently state
what the course/instructor will provide to the student, for example "an
overview of the literature of the twentieth century." Objectives
"consist of statements about the ways in which students are expected
to change as a result of your teaching and the course activities"
(Johnson). These changes include practical skills, critical thinking,
attitudes, feelings, actions, etc.
Writing
clear learning objectives serve many functions, including
- clarifying
course expectations to students,
- facilitating
course planning
- guiding
student evaluation.
