Journal assignment #3:
1. Consider carefully the issues of "ownership of text" that we discussed in class Tuesday morning. When you are building a website, it is possible to "View Source" and cut and paste code into your text, or to download images and include them on your page. The coding and scanning work was done by someone else. Is this plagiarism? Should you ask permission? Cite the person? Is it public domain? Try to give specific examples.
2. LeMay (p. 206) writes, "Writing on the Web is no different from writing in the real world." Respond to this statement.
3. So you're gonna build (or revise) a homepage. Why? I mean, why do you want a homepage on the WWW? What purpose will it fill in your life? How does this "purpose" affect what you include on the page? *Who is your audience for this site?*
4. Begin storyboarding your homepage. (You do not need to do this on screen, but I would recommend it!) Refer to LeMay's discussion of the task for tips. Begin collecting URLs that you would like to include on your homesite -- professional, personal, otherwise. Utilize the search engines on the class syllaweb to aid you in this task.
Complete #s 3+4 before class on Thursday. You need not post them to the class list, though you are welcome to, especially if you're looking for suggestions!
The first two should be completed, and posted to the class list, by Friday at 5:00. NOTE: one way to fulfill the journal assignment is to RESPOND to other peoples' takes on it ... but, at least the first time you post, remember to subjectline it YourName: Journal #3 (1-2) or whatever!!!
