Proposal: Hypertext Publishing vs. Papertext Publishing

By Allan Kotmel

Today, more and more people are getting on the World Wide Web, including both individuals and papertext publishers. My website will examine some of the issues of papertext publishing vs. hypertext publishing. Some of the issues I will discuss include: copyrights, security, "permanence," "updateability," linear vs. non-linear presentation, and credibility.

The audience will be people considering publishing material on the WWW, whether or not they currently publish on paper. I will examine the advantages and disadvantages of publishing on the Web as opposed to papertext. I will compare and contrast the issues, but I probably will not make an opinion, since it depends on the situation.

My information will be based primarily on what we have studied in my Writing to the World Wide Web class. However, I will also take examples from other Web sites and from the news. I also plan to link to some other projects done by myself and other students in the class.
