Participation in the class "conversation" is both expected and required; however, I realize that "participation" is a very individual thing. You should come to class prepared to discuss the assignments, both in small groups and with the whole class; you should also take part in the ongoing electronic discussion via the class e-list, techpro@rpi.edu.
There will be required assignments posted to the list; all assignments must be completed by the date and time specified in the posting. You should treat these postings as professional communications; be aware of your audience and objective. Occasionally, you may prefer to post responses to assignments, or commentary on discussion, directly to me rather than to the class list. This is acceptable, but requires a brief note of explanation in the text.
Unless you are explicitly instructed otherwise, you may assume that any and all writing assignments can be completed electronically.
You are encouraged to post above and beyond the required/assigned entries -- make this list a true discussion space. Ask each other questions, critique each other's work, look for and give feedback. All of your posts will be saved both to a class archive and to an individual archive for the purpose of helping to determine the participation portion of your grade at the end of the term.
While I will "count" postings -- i.e., be able to tell you precisely how many times you posted during the semester -- I am most interested in the quality of your contributions. This does not necessarily mean "longer" = "better" -- consider ways that the interactivity and speed of the electronic environment might actually make length counter-productive!
Late Policy:
Be ye warned: any variation on the excuse "my computer crashed" is unacceptable. Servers crash, hard drives burn out, disks warp ... backups of backups are the way to go.
