A Web Resource for Scholars and Students |

What is "Rhetorical Invention"? The definition has changed and expanded from the Sophists to the Tagmemicists, from Aristotle to Kenneth Burke. The goal of a site like this should never be to "define" (and thus limit) the possibilities of rhetorical invention, but to explore and to expand them.
That said, we may still safely begin by saying that rhetorical invention is a search for wisdom which involves analyzing subjects, audiences, media, and lines (or webs) of reasoning. We can align "rhetorical invention" closely with "invention" in the generic sense -- the creation of what is new in any discipline or endeavour.
