Library PINs and Ingenta passwords provide access to different library information systems. They are not the same as RCS or SIS passwords. RINs (Rensselaer Identification Numbers) appear on Rensselaer ID cards and are used in conjunction with library PINs for library authentication.

Library PINS

To see your Library PIN or Ingenta password, select VIEW now.

(Remember to close your browser or log off when you are finished to keep this personal data confidential.)

To view this information via a telnet session, logon to RCS, enter the command sis at the UNIX prompt and select the "Library Information" menu option.

Your Library PIN permits you to access your library borrowing record in order to:

    • VIEW the books on loan to you
    • RENEW book loans
    • REQUEST A HOLD and be notified when a book on loan is available for you.
    • CANCEL A HOLD for a book you requested earlier.
    • CHANGE YOUR PIN to a code of your own choosing.
    • (Rensselaer alumni and unaffiliated library users may obtain Library PINs and pseudo RINs from the Architecture and Folsom Circulation Desks.)

If you forget your library PIN, library staff can assign you a new temporary PIN, but you must contact the Folsom or Architecture Library Circulation Desks in person to do this (circadm@rpi.edu or 276-8310).

Rensselaer faculty, students and staff must use this link to update personal directory data (e.g. address, phone number). Alumni and other "courtesy" borrowers may contact library circulation desks.

Changing Your Library PIN

To change your library PIN, go to https://opac.lib.rpi.edu/patroninfo, and log in using your RIN and your original library PIN. On the next web page, click on the "Change your PIN" link.
If you change your Library PIN, do not use special characters such as "#, & or $." .

When you change your Library PIN, the original PIN is not updated on your RIN/PIN page, and will no longer work.

Ingenta Passwords

Ingenta passwords are used by Rensselaer faculty and graduate students to order journal articles directly from the Ingenta database as part of the Libraries' Research Express Program. For information about this program, select Research Express now.
