An
Introduction
This volume is one
of a series of publications produced by the Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute under the heading of RPI Bulletins. "Photographic
Reproductions" was published in 1905, 1907, 1910, 1916, 1921,
1926, and 1931, with little change over the years. The 1931 edition
(Volume 30, No. 1x) contains a brief preface and 266 images; each
image includes the name of the project or business represented,
the names of Rensselaer graduates who were affiliated with it,
and occasionally other details about the work.
The types of work represented
include architecture, public utilities, transportation, geological
studies, sanitation projects, mills, mines, foundries, measuring
devices, educational institutions, and a wide range of other products
and industries. While most of the images are from the United States,
there are also quite a few from foreign countries such as Australia,
Canada, Cuba, China, Japan, and many Central and South American
countries.
Since the images in
the volume are in random order and the book was not indexed, two
indexes have been created for the online version of "Photographic
Reproductions." One index is to the names of individuals
and the other lists the works themselves.
