The Biographical Record is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in people affiliated
with Rensselaer during its formative years. It consists mainly of brief biographical sketches
of RPI graduates, faculty, directors, and trustees, plus engravings of some of the more
illustrious members of the Rensselaer community from 1824 to 1886. The compiler, Henry Bradford
Nason, was a member of the Institute's faculty from 1858 until his death in 1895.
Navigating Tips
This document is in pdf format and requires free Adobe Acrobat Reader. To improve navigation, pdf
bookmarks have been added. If a list of bookmarks doesn't open automatically
when you open the document, click on the bookmark tab along the left

For quicker downloading the volume has been divided into ten sections, which you can
move through almost seamlessly. Since the bookmarks list is part of Section One, it
will disappear when you move into another section. To return to the list, click on the word
"Contents" at the top of the bookmark column.
The pdf format also allows you to search within the document using the "find" feature.
To begin searching, click on the binoculars icon on the menu bar and type the word(s)
you're looking for in the pop-up window. Repeat this through each section of the book
(the start of each section is identified in the bookmarks list).
