Rensselaer Lally School graduate student Steven Porzio ’12, enrolled in the Master of Science in Financial Engineering and Risk Analytics degree program, received The Business Review’s 2012 Future Financial Executive award on October 18, 2012.
He was nominated for this award by John Teall, Jackson Tai ’72 Professor in Practice at the Lally School, and Co-Director of the Center for Financial Studies (CFS).
Each year, the publication’s CFO of the Year program includes this prestigious honor, which is awarded to a college student, graduate or undergraduate, in the Capital Region with a strong interest and potential for a career in finance.
A student from Pawling, N.Y., Porzio has already demonstrated strong academic and analytical skills in finance, obtained outstanding internship experience, and is well-rounded outside of the classroom including playing club hockey. He also attended Rensselaer as an undergraduate student.
Porzio completed several finance internships including two at Chemoil Corporation and one at OceanConnect, both located in White Plains, N.Y. His work tracked the details of ethanol and biodiesel fuels, analyzed inventory and profits, and generated measures for the organizations’ accounting systems.
Porzio credits the strong foundation of academics and student resources at Rensselaer in both business and technology with his ability to be a competitive candidate in his current job search process.
As for his more immediate career goals, Porzio was quoted recently in The Business Review, “I hope to land a job as a financial analyst or equities or commodities trader in the insurance, energy, or banking fields.”
