Lally School Sponsors New York State Business Plan Competition

04.16.12NYSBPC

The Lally School is one of four academic sponsors of this year's New York State Business Plan Competition (NYSBPC), previously known as the Tech Valley Business Competition. This business plan competition evolved from the Severino Business Plan Competition offered through the Lally School, designed for college students to test the waters with their entrepreneurial ideas. The Severino Center is still an active participant in the competition, with Center Director, Professor Gina O'Connor, sitting on the planning committee for the competition for the second year. Also involved again this year is title sponsor, SEFCU. As title sponsor, SEFCU has pledged $100,000 of support for the competition each year since 2011. “As a business leader, encouraging entrepreneurship is a great way to stimulate our economy, add jobs, help make a positive impact in our community, and inspire young people,” said Michael Castellana, SEFCU president and CEO. “SEFCU is pleased to be part of such an exciting initiative that brings today’s workforce together with tomorrow’s business leaders in an effort to foster technological advancements that will benefit us all.”

The competition will take place at College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in Albany on Thursday, April 26.  The NYSBPC features over $150k in cash and in-kind prizes, including a $50k cash grand prize, making it one of the largest collegiate competitions in the country. This year's competition has been restructured to accommodate the 120+ submissions. The first round of the competition will consist of 2-minute elevator pitches by each team. Judges will deliberate and select the top 20 teams to present in the final round, which will involve a 10-slide, 10-minute pitch.
