Severino Center Introduces Lally's First High School Business Plan CompetitionHSBPC

01.24.12

The Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship recently launched the new Rensselear High School Business plan Competition.  The competition, which will take place on May 30, 2012, is designed for high school students with an entrepreneurial mind.  Teams of two to four high school students who have a unique business idea are invited to enter the competition for a chance at one of three prizes, totaling $5000.  Interested schools are encouraged to email their intent to participate by February 1. The registration deadline is March 15.  Accepted teams will  receive feedback from business leaders and scholars from the Lally School Community and will make a ten-minute presentation to a panel of judges.

Modeled after the Rensselear Business Plan Competition, this is the first of its kind for high school students through The Lally School.  Lally Assistant Professor Will Tracy is taking the lead on organizing this as an affiliate faculty member of the Severino Center. The competition was designed to introduce local high school students to entrepreneurship at The Lally School and to extend Lally’s efforts in the local community. Gina O'Connor, Faculty Director of the Severino Center noted, "Our entrepreneurial culture at RPI continues to strengthen, and we’d like to infect the region’s young people with our enthusiasm for new business creation.  The business school faculty here at RPI are excited to meet these talented high schoolers and their teachers, and work with them to progress their ventures.  Who knows? Maybe the next Steve Jobs/Larry Page/Mark Zuckerburg/Jeff Bezos/Jeff Kodosky is in our midst!"
