Research and Publications

Dr. Stodder’s areas of expertise include corporate and public finance, monetary economics, game theory, and the economics of developing and transitional countries.  He has testified several times before the Connecticut State Legislature on income inequality and tax credits, property taxes, and tax expenditures.  He has given expert testimony in legal cases on economic damages from personal injury, death, and loss of employment, and in numerous labor arbitration proceedings.

Professor Stodder’s most recent research is on public goods and corruption, virtual currencies and financial stability, and international price discrimination. He has over a dozen articles in refereed journals such as Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Comparative Economics, Eastern Economic Journal, Review of Income and Wealth, European Journal of Law and Economics, and the Journal of Economic Education.  He has co-authored or contributed chapters to books such as “Better Thinking, Better Results: Using the Power of Lean as a Total Business Solution,” “The Encyclopedia of Political Economy, Economy & Society,” “Complexity and the Teaching of Economics,” and “Classroom Experiments: A User’s Guide.”  He has also written dozens of book reviews and op-eds. 

Professor Stodder has been invited to speak at meetings organized by central banks such as the People’s Bank of China, the Central Bank of Brazil, and the U.S. Federal Reserve.  He serves as subject area coordinator in Economics and Finance, and has organized Rensselaer programs in Spain, Italy, and China.  He has dozens of research presentations in countries such as Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Canada, England, France, and Switzerland. Dr. Stodder received his B.A. cum laude from Harvard in 1981, his M.S. with distinction from the University of Essex (UK) in 1983, and his Ph.D. with teaching fellowship from Yale in 1990, all in the field of Economics.
