The walk was on March 24, 1997. We walked with Buddhist monks who have been walking since February 28, 1997. The started walking from Canada and walked through most of New York state. They stopped in Auburn, New York and saw Harriet Tubman's grave. When they reached Troy, New York, members of the Ark went with them. We stopped at many places that dealt with the Underground Railroad. We stopped at the place where the first Presbertarian Church stood, and a girl named Helen read a story about Solomon Northup. Our next stop was at the corner of First and State Sts. There on the bank is a plaque on Charles Nalle. Here I read my story about Charles Nalle. Then we walked down next to the river and Caroline and Candi read their stories about the Underground Railroad. We walked and stopped a few more places and other people read their stories or poems. After we finished the walk, the Buddhist monks led a prayer and then they finished walking up to a church on Tenth Street.
I really liked going on the walk and I hope the Buddhist monks get to New York safely.
