Thanks to the joint efforts of the Division of the CIO (DotCIO) and the campus Division of Human Resources, new Rensselaer employees can now use the on-line pickup program to obtain their userIDs for the Rensselaer Computing System (RCS). These userIDs provide access to a host of important RCS services, including electronic mail, printing, protected Web pages, personal on-line information, WebCT, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), remote access, the use of the RCS UNIX-based workstations, downloadable software, and the EZ-Snapshot file backup service.
New employees will need to supply their 16-digit Registration Pin (RP) number and either their Social Security number or date of birth in order to access the on-line userID pickup program. The RP number will be activated by Human Resources upon completion of all new hire paperwork, including the Employment Transaction Form, which is initiated by the hiring department, and the I-9 form, which is completed by the new employee. (Employees who contact the VCC Help Desk can obtain their RCS userIDs directly, without the RP number.)
Once you obtain your RCS userID, you should change your password. In fact, if you have not changed your password in the past year or so, you should do so again, since a number of new services will only be available to you once you have changed your password. You can change your password by going to the following URL:
http://www.rpi.edu/computing/accounts/passwd.html
And remember, whether youre a new employee or have worked here at Rensselaer for years, you should always feel free to contact the Help Desk on the main floor of the Voorhees Computing Center if you ever need assistance with your account; the staff will be happy to assist you. You can either stop by in person or phone ext. 7777. And if you stop by to get a new password, please be sure to bring valid picture identification with you.
