This policy defines the conditions under which Rensselaer retirees may obtain group health insurance through Rensselaer.

This policy applies to:

A. Retired employees who meet all of the following qualifications:

1. Are at least age 55.
2. Have five years of service.
3. Retire directly from Rensselaer within the past 30 days.
4. Have Medicare Parts A & B (if age 65 or over).

B. Eligible dependents of retired employees.

Policy:

A. Retired employees, their spouses, and unmarried dependent children under age 25 may obtain group health insurance through Rensselaer and under any of the following circumstances:

1. Retirees and eligible dependents may make changes to any current medical plan during any open enrollment period, typically during November or December of each year, for a January 1 effective date.

2. Retirees must enroll in a Rensselaer medical plan or dental plan within 30 days of date of retirement. Dental coverage is only effective for 18 months following date of retirement.

3. If a retiree is enrolled in a Rensselaer medical plan but his/her spouse is not, the spouse may enroll at any open enrollment date or during the year if there is a change of family status as described in Item 2 above.

B. Rensselaer will make a contribution of 1.67 percent of the monthly health insurance premium for each year of service up to 30 years, or 50 percent of the premium for retirees and spouses. For retirees/spouses age 65 or over, Rensselaer will pay up to 50 percent of the premium to a maximum of $85 per month per individual.

C. Dependent children who lose their eligibility may continue health coverage for up to 36 months by electing to pay 102 percent of the premium.
