EHS Course Name: Bloodborne Pathogens
- Approximate Length: 1 Hour
- Attendance Requirements: All employees that, by the nature of their job responsibilities, may potentially be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
- Frequency: Prior to completing any job tasks in which exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials is reasonably possible. At least annually thereafter.
This session provides an explanation of the epidemiology and symptoms of bloodborne diseases, modes of transmission, hazard recognition and exposure control techniques including work practice controls and personal protective equipment. In addition, procedures for post exposure reporting and medical treatment as well as labeling information and the disposal of regulated medical waste are discussed. Employees who successfully complete this session, and as a result of their job function have occupational exposure, will be offered the Hepatitis-B vaccine series free of charge. Information is made available regarding the vaccines efficacy, safety and method of inoculation.
