| Dependent children under age 26 of regular part-time employees who have the equivalent of ten continuous years of full-time service credit are also eligible. (Part-time employees receive one-half year of service credit for each year they work 1,040 hours or more.) Fixed-term employees are not eligible for this benefit. When can I participate? Benefits are available at the start of the first semester coinciding with or the next semester following the date you are eligible for the benefit. How much is the tuition benefit? Rensselaer will pay tuition for up to eight undergraduate semesters for eligible dependent children when they attend Rensselaer. For eligible dependent children who attend another college that is recognized by Rensselaer, Rensselaer will pay tuition for up to eight undergraduate semesters as follows: 1. For children of employees hired prior to October 1, 1978, the lesser of 50 percent of the current Rensselaer tuition per semester or the total tuition per semester at the other college. 2. For children of employees hired after September 30, 1978, Rensselaer will pay an amount not exceeding the lesser of $1,500 per semester or the total tuition for the semester at the other college. The maximum amount paid to other colleges for such dependent children of any one employee will be $36,000. Dependent children of part-time employees will be eligible to receive one-half the benefit listed in number 1 above, if the employee was hired prior to October 1, 1978, or one-half the benefit listed in number 2 above, if the employee was hired after September 30, 1978. How do I apply? Submit to Human Resources a completed Tuition Scholarship Request Form for each eligible child each semester with a copy of the student's tuition bill attached. If your child is a New York state resident and the school to be attended is located in New York state, a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) award notice or verification of ineligibility to receive a TAP award is also required. |
