Course Approval Guidelines

The
following proposals should be submitted to the Faculty Senate
Curriculum Committee for approval:
|
|
1.
|
|
All
new courses. School curriculum committees are asked to pay
particular attention to possible overlap between proposed
course and pre-existing courses.
|
|
2.
|
|
All
writing-intensive courses.
|
|
3.
|
|
Major
course revisions, including all those with significant impact
across schools; e.g., level changes, new audience, delivery/format
changes, addition of laboratory sections.
|
|
4.
|
|
All
courses that have an impact on the Humanities and Social Sciences
core or the Science and Engineering core.
|
|
|
|
|
|
The
following proposals may be decided within the school curriculum
committee but must be submitted to the FSCC as informational
notification. In cases where there is some interschool or
interdepartmental impact, the school curriculum committees
are asked to seek advice from the relevant schools or departments
affected by the change.

1.
|
|
Course
deletions, unless broad out-of-school impact.
|
|
2.
|
|
Course
content changes, unless broad out-of-school impact.
|
|
3.
|
|
Changes
to preexisting courses required to conform to 4x4 curriculum.
The school curriculum committee will be responsible for maintenance
of educational integrity of these changes. All courses must
be reviewed in the semester after they are first taught in
the new format (e.g., compare old and new syllabi).
