After minor wording revisions, both sets of minutes were approved.
The new members of the Faculty Senate were introduced. Professor Peter Persans made a motion to ratify the election results; it was seconded by Professor Deborah Kaminski. The motion passed. Vice President Jim Napolitano made a motion to appoint Professor Curt Breneman as the Science Representative on the Planning and Resources Committee; it was seconded by Professor Sandy Sternstein. Without discussion, Professor Breneman was unanimously appointed. Professor David Haviland was nominated and approved as the representative on the Student Life Committee.

Confidence Vote Results Presentation
President Messac announced the results of the motion: “Resolve that the Faculty of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have no confidence in their president, Shirley Jackson.”
Vote: 149 Yes, 155 No, 16 Abstentions; motion failed.
Out of 505 vote-eligible faculty, 320 members voted.

52% Research Faculty
20% Retired Faculty
Professor Bruce Nauman made a motion to preserve the email alias FACULTY-ALL-L@lists.rpi.edu for faculty to use for corresponding with one another; it was seconded by Professor Larry Kagan. The motion passed unanimously.
Professor Messac thanked the members of the Faculty Senate for their hard work and dedication. Plaques were distributed to the Chair of the Faculty and Chairs of the Planning and Resources Committee, Promotion and Tenure Committee, Curriculum Committee, and Honors Committee. President Messac then presented the gavel to Professor Jim Napolitano.
