Welcome

Thank you for your interest in working with Greening of Rensselaer Initiative through the Undergraduate Research Program. The Greening of Rensselaer Initiative was established in 1995 when EcoLogic, A Student Pugwash Project, received a Strategic Initiatives grant to begin a three-pronged environmental program which included recycling, a garden and greenhouse complex, and an environmental education center. Concurrently, an on-campus co-op position called the Greening Coordinator was created to oversee the program on a full time basis. In 1996 another co-op position, that of the Water Conservation Coordinator, was created, adding another dimension to the greening programs already in place.
 
Students in the URP program have an exciting opportunity to receive credit for doing research and implementing an ongoing effort to reduce the environmental impact of the community.
 

Introduction

TSince the Greening of Rensselaer Initiative began working with students in the Undergraduate Research Program, many successful projects have been started. On this page you can find a list of past research projects, potential onces and guidelines for conducting a successful project.
 

A Project for you?

In choosing a URP project, you may come up with your own idea or you may choose from the list of potential projects. This list is not complete of course; it is designed to help you think about the areas in which you would like to address your energy to green the campus.
 
As you read these lists, think about whether you would prefer to work with another person or predominantly on your own, and what special talents you have that would enhance our program. There are many students already working on projects who you will meet and learn from, and the two coordinators will work with you to find a project which best suits you interests and needs.
