Membership List (Names Only)

IEEE Membership is Part of Being a Professional

IEEE membership is open to all qualified professionals. The grade of your membership will depend upon your academic accomplishment and work experience.

Member and senior member grades recognize those who have achieved professional proficiency, as demonstrated by degrees received and work experience. Associate membership grade is open to certain technical and non-technical applicants who may benefit by membership and participation in the IEEE, and, also, to those individuals progressing through education and work experience towards Member grade.

The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred only by invitation of the Board of Directors.

All members except Students pay the same membership dues and receive the same IEEE membership benefits and services (although Associates and Students may not vote in IEEE elections or hold office, for which Member grade is required). Student members enjoy substantially reduced dues.

Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS)

The technical interests of the IEEE are represented by over 30 different Societies of which the Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) is one. IEEE members may join one or more Societies in keeping with their technical interests.

All DEIS members receive the complete Society Transactions (6 issues per annum) containing fully refereed papers relating to a wide variety of materials, applications, measurements and theoretical issues relating to dielectrics and electrostatics. In addition, the Electrical Insulation Magazine (6 issues per annum) is mailed to all DEIS members. The magazine contains technical articles of a more practical nature, and provides an up-to-the-minute perspective on the industry through a variety of news columns.

Technical meetings also play a large part in the Society's activities. Members get reduced registration at any of the seven regular conferences sponsored by DEIS both in the US and abroad.

The Society has special programs for students, including Fellowship opportunities for sponsoring research done by student members, and financial aid for students participating in the Society's meetings. A wide variety of awards are also administered by DEIS for recognizing exceptional achievement and service. Local Chapters of the Society function both in North America and abroad (Italy and Japan).

Fourteen different technical committees function within DEIS. These committees tackle technical issues of importance to the wide range of industries served, and are also responsible for drafting and updating IEEE Standards and Guides in the area of expertise covered by DEIS.

Society annual membership fees are currently only $20 ($10 for students).

Affiliates

Electrical insulation is a multi-disciplinary area. Indeed, there are probably as many chemists as engineers engaged in industry in the insulation field. The IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society has become a major international forum for electrical insulation technology, but professionals other than engineers do not have to become full members of IEEE in order to have the privileges of DEIS membership. It is possible to become an IEEE Affiliate (at a substantially reduced annual fee) and then join DEIS. Details of Affiliate status (and other grades of membership) can be obtained from the DEIS Membership Chair or from the IEEE Admissions and Advancement Department.
