February 26th Recap: Graphics (continued):
Color and Layout
- Today we continued our discussion of graphics, which we started
two weeks ago by addressing issues of color and
layout. (I didn't complete a discussion on layout; we'll get to this after the break).
- The main point of this discussion was to point out the several factors - cultural and cognitive - in
the way you perceive colors. In general, my point is that you should have a reason or rationale for the use
of the colors on your web pages. Each color you use should serve some purpose - to highlight information, to aid in navigation or information structure, to evoke an emotional response, to
symbolically represent a concept, etc.
