A Kurzweil reading system, scanner, and CC-TV print magnifier are
located in a reserved key-access room in Folsom Library. To arrange to use this
equipment, call Disability Services for Students at 276-2746 or send email to
dss@rpi.edu.
Campus workstations can be configured for enlarged text and
graphics, choice of colors, etc. Assistance can be provided if needed.
Additional equipment will be provided as required on an individual
basis.
SERVICES PROVIDED THROUGH DISABILITY SERVICES FOR STUDENTS
Assistance in
ordering recorded textbooks is provided using
Recording for the Blind and
Dyslexic in Princeton, New Jersey. Since availability
of recorded textbooks cannot be guaranteed by RFB&D, local volunteers or
other sources will be utilized when necessary. Assistance can also be
provided in ordering electronic versions of textbooks from publishers, or creating voice
files for personal laptops.
Assistance will be provided in recruiting
readers and notetakers from the campus community. Volunteers will be used
in most cases. If paid notetakers are necessary, government assistance
will also be explored.
Faculty will be requested to provide accommodations needed
in the classroom, such as large print exams, extra test time, front-row
seating, etc.
Special arrangements for campus housing can be provided if
requested in advance.
Information and referral is available for
government financial assistance and special scholarships targeted to
visually impaired students.
Large-print maps of the Rensselaer campus
are available. Students may also receive assistance in getting oriented to
the physical environment of the campus.
Note: If you need assistance using the Library, consult
