Mobility Limitations
SERVICES AVAILABLE AT RENSSELAER FOR STUDENTS WITH MOBILITY LIMITATIONS
If you have limitations in walking, or use mobility devices such as a
cane, crutches or wheelchair, you may be interested in the following:
“Hand scheduling” of your classroom locations is available to ensure
that they are accessible to you and conveniently located.
Campus maps are available indicating accessibility of buildings and
showing locations of designated parking spaces.
Contact Campus Parking [link] if you have a state parking permit for
drivers with disabilities and are interested in using designated parking
spaces on campus. Be sure to check both
campus parking regulations
(Section VII, Part A) and also the list and
map of designated
spaces.
Several residence halls have been adapted for wheelchair users and
some offer private or semi-private bathrooms.
Students who require personal care assistance are responsible for
arranging and financing these services. However, DSS can offer
assistance in recruiting student aides on campus or contacting local
agencies in the Troy area.
Individual campus tours can be arranged that focus on accessibility
of building and facilities.
Campus bus and shuttle services are accessible, and students may
also be eligible for local paratransit service. You may want to consult
the Capital District Transportation
Authority for
more information on their accessible line bus service and their STAR paratransit service.
Students who need assistance in the classroom (e.g., notetakers,
testing modifications) should contact DSS. Adapted computers and other
devices may also be available based on individual need.
For assistance in using the Library, consult
Library
Services for Disabled Patrons at Rensselaer.
For more information on any of the above services, contact Debra
