FRIENDSHIP PARTNER PROGRAM - HORIZONS INTERNATIONAL

Last updated: November 15, 2004

Horizons International is pleased to offer international students and visiting scholars at RPI the opportunity to participate in a Friendship Partner Program. This program is designed to promote friendship and understanding between members of the community and students from abroad.

Horizons has sponsored this program for almost 20 years. Each year in the fall, Americans from a number of local churches volunteer to be partners with international students from September until May. During this time they will get together about once a month through informal meeting, meals, outings, holiday celebrations, etc.

The program is very informal and activities are arranged to meet the schedules of both the Americans andthe students. In addition, many large group events (e.g. local trips, hikes, concerts, dinners) are organized by Horizons throughout the semester. American friends and international students are invited to take part in them.

Applications for the program are currently available at the International Student Services office. They should be returned to the office when completed. We anticipate that applications should also be available online through our web site (www.horizons-int.org) in the near future.

Horizons' goal is to be able to provide a friendship partner for every student who requests one. However, because the number of American partners is limited, we ask that you apply only if you are serious about this commitment. Within a short time after submitting your application, you will be contacted by your new friend to arrange your first meeting. We are looking forward to meeting you!
