Automobile Inspection in NY State

Last updated: April 13, 2004

In New York State, by law, every car has to be inspected every twelve months or when the ownership changes. The inspection must be carried out at an official state-licensed inspection station.

The inspector checks the car's brakes, body, head & tail lights and the engine etc. If anything needs to be fixed he advises the owner about it. The car has to be brought back for the inspection after the repairs are completed. There is a $10 fee for inspection. An inspection sticker with the expiry date is issued after a successful inspection.

The inspection agents in the area can be found from the Yellow Pages of your phone book. Most of the car repair garages have the inspection facility.
