The ISSS staff will be at an immigration meeting all day on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 and not available for questions. Protect Your Personal Information Never give out personal information over the phone!!!!! Last semester a student received a phone call from a bank in the area that said she owed them money. The student was tired from studying and confused, the person from the bank asked for the student’s social security number, and bank account number. The student gave this information. This is very dangerous!!!! Anyone could call you on the phone and say they are from a bank and ask for information. Then if you give them the information they could use it to get money out of your account, or open credit cards in your name and buy things that you will have to pay for. So you need to be very cautious and careful when giving out any personal information. If this ever happens to you get the callers name, place of business and phone number and tell them you will get back to them the next day. Then make an appointment to see an ISSS staff member for advice. There are people in this world that will try and cheat you, so you have to be careful. Tax Information – Tax Payer Identification Number (ITIN) All students and scholars on F-1 and J-1 visa’s and their dependents are required to file tax forms every year, whether you earned any income. When you fill out a tax form you are required to given your U.S. social security number, BUT if you don’t have a social security number you must get a Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRA) to use when filling out your tax forms. To get a Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), you can get an application form from the ISSS Office. After you fill out the form the staff in the ISSS Office will need to make copies of your passport. Then they will send in the application to the IRS. It takes the IRS 4-6 weeks to process the application. The deadline for submitting your tax forms to the IRS for the calendar year 2002 is April 15, 2003. This time of year the road can get sloppy. While driving you will notice the windshield gets very dirty. You need to make sure you keep the windshield fluid full. Do not put water in it because water will freeze. There is special windshield wiper fluid you can buy. It is important to keep your windshield clean so you can see. When roads are wet and the sun is out it can be hard to see, you don’t want a dirty windshield to make it harder. “Hey”. If you are walking by a friend they would say “Hey”.
That is another way of saying hello. |
