Pub at the Union

If you are a regular customer at the Clubhouse Pub, located on the Third Floor of the Student Union you are probably familiar with the Friday afternoon’s Happy Hour when free food accompanies beverages. Before you all rush now to the Pub to take advantage of this opportunity, please read some of the following information about customs and cultural expectations here in the US regarding going to bars and pubs.

The Happy Hour is designed as a thank you for the patrons of the club. The patrons are all of the customers that come to the pub on a regular basis and support it through buying beverages. If you would like to take advantage of the pizza and wings and other free food available during Happy Hour, do make sure that you at least buy a beverage. A beverage does not by any means refer to alcohol only. You can also buy soda or other non-alcoholic beverages. In this way, the Pub can afford to improve its services and in the future provide some variety in the food offered.

In some countries tipping a bartender is regarded as offensive. However, in the United States leaving no tip is considered inappropriate. If you go to a bar in downtown Troy and do not tip a bartender, it is very likely that you will not get served next time you go to that bar, or you might have to wait for awhile before you do. This is a way for bartenders to show these customers that they do not appreciate not being tipped. A common tip is one dollar for a drink.

So next time you go to the Clubhouse Pub or any other bar, keep these considerations in mind.

Driving Tip

Check your tires. Is there enough air in them? If not stop by a gas station and fill them up.

American Slang

April Showers brings May Flowers. When I was growing up everyone would say this when it rained in April. And if you look around now all the flowers are coming up.
