Diversity Opportunities on Campus
SafeZone Training
The Rensselaer SafeZone Program is designed to reduce homophobia and heterosexism on campus, thereby making Rensselaer a safer and more open environment for all members of the community regardless of sexual orientation. By creating a formal network of supportive allies for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning students, staff, and faculty we hope to make the campus a better place for everyone. Although transgender refers to gender identity and not necessarily sexual orientation, this is a sexual minority group and is therefore included in the SafeZone program. Started in August 2001 there are already more than 100 faculty, staff, and students involved in the program. For more information, contact the Student Health Center, (518) 276-6147.
