Y'all,

Here is a "first cut" at defining a set of criteria for our task. Deborah
Johnson was kind enough to put this together (with some minor feedback and
editorial comments from me). Please feel free to provide your comments
back to the list........see ya.....j.k.

1. The curriculum or curricula should primarily attract students not
traditionally drawn to Rensselaer. The new type of student we want to
attract should not need as much financial aid.

2. It should be multidisciplinary, involving all or at least several of the
schools.

3. It should be able to be described and packaged in a way that is appealing
to high school students in general, and those under criteria #1 in
particular.

4. It should have job or career potential both for the short term (first job)
and long term (life-long career).

5. It should be describable and packaged in a way that employers will
understand and find attractive.

6. It should be multiple curriculum with students based in several schools
taking overlapping courses.

** This one probably will take some more discussion with the group to
understand whether these are students in a separate program, students in
each school participating in IT course/curriculum offerings, or both. It
seemed that there was a fair amount of discussion emerging last time about
this.

7. It should have to do with information but in a way that is flexible in
anticipation of a rapidly changing set of fields.

** This is tied to #4 and we have to be vigilant to not have obsolescence
before we start.
