Scientific Computation Research Center

SCOREC is an interdisciplinary research center which serves as a focal point for research on advanced computational techniques. SCOREC research emphasizes algorithm development in (i) reliable automated adaptioved techniques for solving partial differential equations, (ii) parallel computation techniques, (iii) advanced finite element formulations, and (iv) adaptive multiscale computational techniques. Current application areas include soft biological tissues, unsteady aerodynamics, composite structures, composite processing, metal forming, and crystal growth.

The SCOREC computational facilities inclued parallel processors, high-performance visualization facilities and a workstation environment. Parallel processing at RPI is supported by an IBM SP2 with 34 thin nodes and 2 fat nodes. SCOREC has a SGI Onyx2 Computer system with 8 R10000 processors. High performance visualization is supported by an Infinite Reality Engine, 2 SGI Indigo2 Maximum Impact with R10000, and 3 SGI Indigo2 Extremes. The three Sun Ultras have Creator 3-D graphics.

The SCOREC server consists of a Sun Enterprise 450 server with over 100GB of storage and switched ethernet. Additional workstations include 13 Sparc10's, 12 other Sun workstations, and 5 IBM workstations.
