What is Civil Engineering?
Civil and environmental engineers are responsible for providing the world's constructed facilities, which are in turn basic to the existence of a modern society. These facilities can be large and complex, and require that the engineer be broadly trained and able to deal with the latest technologies.
Given the present responsibility of rebuilding America's infrastructure (roads, bridges, water and sewer lines, etc.), the role of civil engineers in society has never been greater. Recent congressional
legislation to upgrade this country's infrastructure increased the prominence of the profession and should create numerous job opportunities for civil and environmental engineering graduates.
