Find out when your laptop's warranty expires Follow these instructions to have your laptop repaired (on or off-campus). Extending the warranty: Before your warranty expires, you can choose to purchase a warranty extension directly from Lenovo for either a 1 or 2 year period. Call 1-866-968-4465 and press the selection for "Sales". This will connect you to a Lenovo representative who will assist you with your selection of coverage. Additional details are available on the Lenovo Care web page. Defective Pixels: Rensselaer follows the defective pixel policy provided by Lenovo. If the number of defective pixels on your screen meets the Lenovo policy and the laptop is under warranty, the laptop display will be replaced. Note: If Lenovo replaces your laptop under your ThinkPad Protection coverage, your ThinkPad Protection coverage for accidental damage expires and the warranty will expire when the warranty on your original laptop would expire. The biggest cause of loss is negligence. Never leave an unattended laptop in plain view without securing it - be sure to use the security cable! Most laptops are stolen from unlocked (however briefly) residence hall rooms and campus buildings. What about insurance? Check to see if your laptop is covered under a homeowners's or renter's policy. Haylor, Freyer and Coon Collegiate Student insurance offers a policy with a low deductible which covers computers and other electronic equipment. Go to www.haylor.com/student (opens in new window) and select Personal Property Protection for more information and an on-line enrollment form. If your laptop has been stolen, contact Public Safety at 276-6656 (if on-campus) or the local police (if off campus) immediately! To file a claim, follow the instructions on the "Insurance" link on your Laptop Status page in the Student Information System. Rensselaer Computer Repair, on the lower level of the VCC, can arrange for a loaner machine, subject to availability of inventory. When you first pick up your laptop computer, we will help you get it set up and configured for use with the Rensselaer network. Help is available at the Help Desk in the VCC every day but Saturday, including weekends. There is also extensive on-line help about laptops and general computing instruction.
The Rensselaer Campus Computer Store (RCCS) on the main floor of the VCC sells batteries as well as a wide variety of accessories for your laptop. They also sell software at an educational discount, printers, scanners and more.
