Acquiring Your Laptop - Fall 2009
Fall 2009 laptop distribution schedule
CII 3051, located in the CII annex, will serve as the starting point for this year's laptop distribution. FRESHMEN: Please note that because laptop distribution is a scheduled event, you cannot choose which day to pick up your laptop. You will be notified by Residence Life as to when you should report to the CII.

If you are unable to pick up your laptop at one of the
times listed above, the Mobile Computing Program will also hold two small-scale distribution sessions in the VCC lobby during the first week of classes, as follows:

Fall 2009 laptop trade-up schedule
If you're currently using a T60 or T61 and would like to trade up your laptop, you may do so by coming to Rensseler Computer Repair (RCR), located in the basement of the VCC, during the second week of the semester, as follows:

If you are unable to stop by RCR during these times, please send an e-mail message to the Mobile Computing team so that they can schedule an appointment for you.

The Mobile Computing Package for Fall
2009 is made up of the Lenovo W500 laptop, a comprehensive pre-installed software suite, a backpack carrying case, an Ethernet cable, a security cable and lock, and an iClicker classroom personal response unit. The laptop is specially configured for easy connection to the Rensselaer network, and fully supported by on-campus repair and consulting facilities.
The purchase price of this complete package is $1,825.
To help insure your new investment, Haylor, Freyer and Coon Collegiate Student insurance offers a policy
with a low deductible which covers computers and other personal property.

All incoming undergraduate students are required to have a laptop
computer.
A packet with details and ordering information will be mailed
to you at the end of June. Please wait for this packet.

Juniors
(Third-year students) |
While a two-year refresh is not a requirement, students will
benefit from beginning the third year at Rensselaer with an entirely
new laptop computer, the best way to keep pace with rapidly changing
technology. Note that each year the minimum specs for the laptop
computer only apply to incoming students.

Students |
Each year, every matriculated student is allowed to purchase
one laptop computer through the Mobile Computing Program.
This information also applies to all matriculated graduate and MBA students in the Lally School
who are required to have a laptop computer.
