Important information regarding Windows 7

Students

Students who currently have a W500, T61p, or T61 laptop under Rensselaer's Mobile Computing Program will be able to re-image their laptop with a 32-bit version of the Windows 7 operating system as of Monday, November 2. This base image will contain:

  • Windows 7 32-bit, Enterprise edition
  • Windows Office 2007
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection (anti-virus)
  • Adobe Elements (Contribute, Premiere, Photoshop, Soundbooth, and Acrobat)
  • WinDVD and Roxio Creator
  • ThinkVantage utilities

Other applications such as Matlab, NX6, and LabVIEW are available for download on-line or at the VCC Help Desk.

A full image including the full suite of software will be available at the start of the spring 2010 semester.

Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade media is available to students participating in the Mobile Computing Program through the Rensselaer Campus Computer Store for $20. The Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade media checks for a legal copy of Windows installed on your computer. You can do a "clean" install of Windows 7 using the upgrade media. A "clean" install is recommended. For a "clean" install, back up your files to external media, reformat the hard disk, install Windows 7, and re-install your applications.
