Acquiring
Your Laptop
Fall 2000 Freshmen
As an incoming freshman, you have the following options:
- lease the laptop computer
- purchase the laptop computer
- bring your own laptop computer subject to minimum system requirements; be sure to check with your curriculum advisor for software requirements
We recommend that your obtain your laptop computer through Rensselaer because of the special price and software already on the system, compatibility with other systems on campus, and the availability of on-campus repair. The complete package (hardware, software, extras) would have a retail value of $5000.
At the beginning of June, you should receive a mailing with information about your options and forms to let us know of your decision. When you have made your decision, return the appropriate form by June 23, 2000 to

Leasing the laptop
You can choose a two-year lease for your laptop computer with four equal payments of $603.67 for a total of $2414.68. You will receive a bill at the beginning of the fall '00, spring '01, fall '01, and spring '02 semesters.
This includes the laptop, all pre-loaded software, extras, insurance and sales tax.

Purchasing the laptop
Full payment of $2700.00 ($2500.00 + $200 NY sales tax) is due at the beginning of the fall '00 semester. You will receive a bill.
