Chemistry Undergraduate Prizes and Awards

Outstanding academic performance by undergraduate chemistry majors is recognized by the following prizes and awards:

The William Pitt Mason Prize is awarded at graduation to a senior who has exhibited outstanding academic performance and exceptional promise of professional success; presentation of a senior thesis is a major consideration in making this award.

  • 2006 Recipient - Jordan Mader

The John and Mary Cloke Prize is awarded at graduation to a senior who is continuing in Chemistry, Medicine or Biological Science and who has a distinguished academic record in the Chemistry department.

  • 2006 Recipient - James Hayes

The George J. Janz Award for Undergraduate Research in Chemistry is an award for the support of undergraduate research in an area of Chemistry, given to an undergraduate student in Chemistry who shows high scientific promise.

The award will provide funds for stipend support for the student, usually for the summer term. In addition to a stipend, the award will provide funds toward the student's attendance at an appropriate scientific meeting. This need not be done during the period of the stipend support.

  • 2007 Recipient - James Porambo, Trevor Sherwood

The Arthur G. Schultz Award for Undergraduate Research in Organic Chemistry is an award for the support of undergraduate research in an area of Organic Chemistry, given to an undergraduate student in Chemistry who shows high scientific promise.

The award will provide funds for stipend support for the student, usually for the summer term. In addition to a stipend, the award will provide funds toward the student's attendance at an appropriate scientific meeting. This need not be done during the period of the stipend support.
