| Co-op
By participating in the co-op program, students can obtain valuable working experience that can be very helpful in choosing a career. Payment is at industrial rates. Typically, a student spends a summer and one semester on a co-op assignment. This may require a student to graduate the semester following normal graduation for his or her class, although students with advance placement or transfer credits often can complete the requirements without spending extra time by taking some additional courses in some semesters or summers. Some schedules that then permit graduation in four years are given below.
The best time for a chemistry major to be off-campus is the first semester of the fourth year, as this is the easiest semester in which to re-arrange the required courses; the changes that are needed are given below.
In all cases, a total of 128 credit hours is required, and if this total is not achieved by the end of the fourth year, an additional semester will be required. Elective credits as well as H&SS credits required in the schedules below will depend on the number of credits earned in earlier semesters.
Students With Lots of Advance Credits
The following is a possible schedule for fourth year co-op, for students who have enough credits from advance placement, transfer or additional courses to graduate in four years:
| First semester |

| On co-op. |
CHEM-4950 Senior Experience (3 credits) |
| CHEM-4620 Introduction to Polymer Chemistry (4 credits) |
